David Poole PPRP ARCA is the former President of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and Chairman of the Federation of British Artists and Senior Lecturer at the Wimbledon School of Art which was where he had trained as an artist.
The drawing of Rod Thomas a personal friend of David Poole and a leading UK architect of the 60's,70's and 80's ( as well as inventing the plastic stacking chair!) is extremely rare. It is a study for the final oil portrait which resides today at one of the famous Cambridge colleges. (see attached) It is rare because David Poole never allowed any of his drawings to be publicly circulated and they remain within his studio. This particularly drawing was given to a family member and found its way to auction years later. A copy of the final picture is attached and you can see just how good the drawing is!
David Poole is one of Englands greatest living portrait artists and includes the following sitters on his prestigious CV:
The Queen (a number of times)
The Duke of Edinburgh
The Queen Mother
Prince Charles
Princess Anne
Princess Margaret
Earl Mountbatten
The Duke of Kent
Also distinguished members of the government, industry, commerce, medicine, the legal and academic professions. His other works are highly in demand and excellent investments for the future.
